Fort Belvoir Cac Office - Fort Belvoir is an Army post on the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is a large post divided into three main areas: the main post, Davidson Army Airfield, and Fort Belvoir North. Once a farm, Fort Belvoir, built during World War I, was originally a training school for US Army engineers. Today, nineteen agencies and numerous divisions, battalions and commands use Fort Belvoir as their headquarters for operations. You'll also find the US Army General Forces School, the Marine Corps, the US Army Audit Agency, and more. According to the 2010 census, 7,100 people lived in the area determined by the census covering the post, and more than 51,000 people worked.
Fort Belvoir is located 21 miles south of Washington. It is a short drive from major suburban cities and many other military installations.

If you find yourself in the capital city, there are DC buses and subways that will take you to Fort Belvoir for much less than the cost of a Greyhound or Amtrak ticket.
There are several airports around the fort with domestic flights, but none of them are very close. If you're flying in from somewhere, one of your best options is to fly into DC, take public transportation to the post office, or take a taxi from the airport.
If you are unsure about your options, the transport department can help you. Whether you're coming alone or as a family with a house full of furniture, they'll help you find the best route for your exact location.
To enter the station, you will need to present your military ID to be screened by the gate staff. Identification is required for your spouse and/or children to gain access. If you are driving, you will need to show your license and registration. If you are driving a rental car, the rental agreement will be sufficient. If you are visiting for an event or other activity, you will need to go to the Visitor Center to get a ticket.

If you find yourself in a busy urban area or a quiet neighborhood on the banks of the Potomac, this might be the city for you.
Newington, a modest settlement of 12,000 people, close to the post office, is a census-designated place established in 1760. It is a convenient and interesting place with easy access to parks, restaurants, highways and surrounding towns. Even though it's only 15 minutes from the post office, it's hard to beat.
Alexandria is a much smaller city than DC, with a population of about 160,000. The historic Old Town district has many cultural centers and attractions that will keep you busy for a long time. If you enjoy living in the countryside, this may be the place for you.

Temperatures around the post are generally moderate, with hot seasons lasting more than 3 months and exceeding 80. Summers are rainy and humid.
